Government Physical Training College for Men, Rampur
Before independence, there was a princely state in the country. Among these, the important place of Rampur Riyasat. Some people also call it Ruhela Riyasat. In Mahabharata and Puranas, this city was a part of Panchal country. And it was known by the name of “Adikot”.
According to a survey, the dunes and fields available in Rampur district have been described as Mahabharata period. The city was named Rampur after the name of Raja Ram Singh, the predecessor of the Nawabi princely state. From 1719, Rampur was included in Ruhela state by Ruhela Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan. On October 7, 1774 AD, the first Nawab Faizullah Khan made Rampur his princely state and made Shahabad the headquarters and named it Mustafabad. For some time, on the demand of the people, its name was again changed to Rampur.
On 1 December 1949, this princely state was merged with the Indian Union. After the attainment of independence, there was a lot of promotion of education in Rampur, but less people could go to government services. A “Sports Stadium” was built by Nawab Raza Ali Khan in 1941 in the sweet memory of his friends. Swimming pool, gymnasium pavilion are special mention in this. The stadium was planted by the Nawab in the Mughal Gardens The opening (stone) is as follows- Nawab’s Sports Stadium which is now known as Physical College. With the efforts of the British government, the Government Physical Training College was opened in Allahabad on 8 November 1945 and C.D.Naithani was appointed as the first principal. Initially 15 D.P.Ed. And there were 25 C.P.Ed. seats and there was a system of co-education (male-female). According to the departmental order, it was decided to run the men’s wing of this college in Nawab Saheb’s sports stadium. And Nawab Rampur gave his sports stadium to the education department and on 10 July 1955 the college started running under the direction of Mr. M. Choubey (first principal). As per the requirement of teachers, 50 CP Ed and 50 D P.Ed. Training was given to the student teachers. In the 1970s, 50 C.P.Ed. and 50 D.P.Ed. The seats were done.


The college has 400 meter track, swimming pool, hostel, staff quarter, gymnasium, pavilion and main administrative building. Kosi river is in the west. Apart from this, hockey ground and sufficient land is available. Indoor badminton is played in the gymnasium. As a result of many ups and downs, the CPED course was discontinued in May 1996. For better knowledge of CPED passed teachers, refresher training for D.P.Ed. (upgrading course) is arranged. Now only D.P.Ed. is being trained. In June 2005, this college has completed its glorious 50 years. The area of district Rampur is 2367 square kilometers, the population is about 20 lakhs and the language spoken is Hindi.
